Christmas Poinsettia Cake

I made this cake for a friend's cookie exchange party - I like the festive colors!

This was my first time doing any kind of "drapey thing" down the front of a cake...so that was interesting to figure out. :) I did it in white modeling chocolate, and it was losing its flexibility when I started folding it, so I had to take the whole thing off and do it again, and finally got it to lay right. :)
The poinsettias are also modeling chocolate. I hand-piped the snowflakes and decorated them with edible pearl nonpareils.

Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes from scratch with cream cheese icing and nutmeg...mmmmm!!!

Bridge Cake

Some of our friends recently celebrated the completion of a new bridge across their creek, and asked me to make a "bridge cake". :) They sent me pictures of the bridge, and I did my best to replicate it in rice krispies and modeling chocolate...;) with piping gel water and cookie crumb gravel to top it off.

PT Cruiser

 The Chrysler PT Cruiser: Chocolate cake stacked and iced with buttercream, then covered in white and dark modeling chocolate. I painted it with icing color and luster dust to give a metallic look.

The sand was flour and brown sugar. This combination works better for two reasons - it doesn't clump like pure brown sugar, and the flour makes it the right color for sand on a Florida beach. :)

Elijah's 8th B-Day - Puppy Camping

My brother Elijah just turned 8 yrs. old, and he wanted to have a "Puppy Camping Birthday". He has always loved Beanie-Baby puppies, and with his big imagination he loves to play that they go camping and off-roading, and have really big adventures! :) So for his birthday cake, I bought the four-wheeler (it's remote-controlled) and made a puppy-campsite, complete with cookie crumb gravel, ice cream cone trees, a fondant tent and grass. I topped it all off with a modeling chocolate sculpture of his favorite puppy, "Frisky". :)

This font is one I got on the internet - it's called "Cowboy". I love to copy and design fonts for cake writing!

The guitar strap is made from modeling chocolate. I engraved it with gum paste tools to look like the real guitar strap. The strings are spaghetti noodles dusted with silver luster dust - in the assembly of the strings I made the all-important discovery that corn syrup is the perfect glue!! :) Rice crispies form the base for the neck - they're also covered in modeling chocolate...mmmm!!!
