Cutie Pies ;)

Our church had a fellowship dinner last Sunday, and I wanted to make something fun and summery, so I thought - why not pies? I got the pie idea from a picture I saw on the Hello Cupcake blog, and thought of the filling/topping myself.
They are vanilla and strawberry cupcakes - the vanillas are filled and topped with apricot filling and buttercream; the strawberries are filled and topped with strawberry filling and buttercream (same as the vanillas).
Yummy! :)
Fillings I can do include those mentioned above, as well as Raspberry, Blueberry, Chocolate Ganoche, and many more to come. . .

"Up"

For my brother Elijah's birthday last fall, I made an "Up" cake- because that's one of his favorite movies. It is gluten-free, because he is on a gluten-free diet right now. That's another one of my "specialties" - I can do gluten-free cakes.
I also l-o-v-e doing kid's birthday themed cakes- like Disney, Pixar. etc. or just anything fun. Well, actually, it's all fun to me! :)
Couldn't figure out how to turn this pic right-side-up,
but you get the idea. :)

The first cake was a commission from a mutual friend - for a 70th birthday party
This cake was for the combination birthday party for my dad, my grandpa, and my uncle

The One That Started It All

My Grndma started taking fiddle lessons a couple years ago, and I decided I wanted to make her a fiddle cake for her birthday...
No fondant- just buttercream and some tootsie rolls to make the tuning knobs and the chin rest. The bridge is a graham cracker, and the strings are jewelry wire.
My aunt did cakes for several years, and she had one of those food color airbrushes - that's how I got the wood color effect.
Mom calls me crazy for starting out with something so complicated, but I knew what I had in mind and I just went for it. I had so much fun making this cake!

Some of this year's cakes...

My first wedding cake - fondant covered...
bit of a challenge for me, but I enjoyed it.

And here's the little cake I made for my parents' anniversary...
All chocolate - devil's food cake with my secret recipe chocolate icing. :)
My brother had a Pac-Man birthday, so I made the game screen

And here's the controller...
Licorice wires, and a Tootsie Pop on top!
I have the most fun with kid's cakes and specialty cakes- I love the challenge, and it fuels my creativity.
